Daimler stopped producing energy storage for domestic batteries

Daimler, a German carmaker, has decided to halt global production of domestic battery storage and dismantle its US subsidiary.

Meisaidesi-benchigongsi's spokesman, Madeleine Herdlitschka, told the media that the batteries developed by the company were actually "over-designed" and used as home storage.

Daimler launched a home battery in June 2015, shortly after Tesla launched the Powerwall home battery. Mercedes-Benz Energy Americas Co., Ltd. was established in the fourth quarter of 2016 and is responsible for the development and sales of fixed energy systems in North America.

Daimler will remain committed to its EV program and its employees will be ready to advise customers interested in learning about home batteries, according to the GreentechMedia report. Its large-scale storage work in Germany will also continue.

In early April, Daimler announced plans to use non-automotive fuel cell systems to develop carbon-free energy supply systems. Its subsidiaries NuCellSys, North America's Mercedes-Benz R&D Center(MBRDNA) and Daimler Innovation Laboratory 1886 will cooperate with HP Enterprise(HPE), PowerInnovations(PI) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory(NREL) project cooperation. The pilot system of the Data Processing Centre will be launched this year.

Daimler argues that data centers offer huge opportunities for new energy systems that combine fuel cells with on-site production of hydrogen electrolytes, fuel storage devices, photovoltaic(PV) panels and wind turbines.

"The use of automotive fuel cell systems helps to streamline the energy generation and supply of data processing centres and significantly improve the carbon footprint," Daimler said. By eliminating the need for diesel generators, the central power supply system and other equipment can be interrupted and the total cost reduced.
