Introduction

It is quite challenging to build public or private charging stations that is associated with user authentication services and proper billing systems keeping in mind public safety and planning. There is a competition in the national and international market for building the perfect battery charging station and they are always coming up with new and innovative schemes.

What is battery charging station?

Depending upon the vehicle, there can be different chargers such as for electric bike, hybrid car, passenger car, delivery van. Most chargers provide a DC current and control the charge flow as well as protect the battery from over-charging, over voltage and high temperature.

Chargers for electric bikes are light and low cost which may be present as a separate unit and can be charged at home. For electric cars, the chargers are fitted inside the vehicle and while they can also be charged at home, there are charging stations where they can be plugged in and charged. Charging at home can take several hours and so these cars have a high charging port that allows them to be charged at outlets with high power battery charging station installations. These electric vehicles made for commercial purposes have even larger batteries and need high power charging. Such vehicles have two batteries-one that is charged and can be used and another one that undergoes charging. This sort of shuttling makes the vehicle go for longer distances.

Charging stations deliver the charge to these batteries either in the DC or AC form. To supply power to high capacity batteries, different levels of power grading has been applied. These are level 1, level 2 and level 3. It involves one to three phase electric supply that helps charging these batteries.

Level 1 is single phase alternating current and can be used at home. It delivers a power of 1.9V to 3V. Level 2 delivers either single phase or three phase alternating current or can provide up to 20 kW of power. Level 3 is the direct current or fast charging that provides power of 240kW.

Do you need a battery charging station for all your power tools and batteries?

Most of the batteries are charged at charging stations and if you are having a number of power tools, it is best to have charging stations so that you find your tools before the battery dies out. Also, it looks very stylish to have a charging station with all your tools on display. Nowadays, there are wireless charging stations and Bluetooth charging stations that are being built.

The wireless charging stations are based on a pad that emits electromagnetic waves and these are caught by the wiring of the batteries which gets them charged without having to be plugged. The battery can be charged while it is in the device or tool and there is no hassle of assembling it. Manufacturers have come up with Bluetooth tools that send signals to the batteries and provide you information about them that you could not have had before.

With the help of wireless or Bluetooth you can also control your device remotely and know if the battery is charged or hot due to the flow of current and provide instructions to check on the charging of the device.

Another upcoming charging station for all your tools is based on solar power that has not hot the market on a full-fledged scale. Solar panels are lightweight and foldable and make them easy to be installed, however, they are very heavily priced. The solar panels have a cable that can be plugged or they are present at a charging station. This makes it easy for you to power your tools and batteries.

With battery charging stations in question, you must have a clear idea as to what power tools you want to charge and which type of batteries they use. Mounting the battery chargers can make it easy for you to charge multiple batteries at a time. What can be distracting are the lights that may glow together. You can cover the area with LED lights amidst the battery lights may look good.

How do you build a battery charging station?

Building a battery charging station allows several batteries to be charged at once and reduces the hassles of finding your tools by which time the batteries might be dead. In case you have several tools for charging batteries like a pair of drills or drivers, jigsaws, you might consider building a tool station. Building a charging station also keeps the tools accessible.

The legs and the base have to be built first and then you must decide how many racks you want to have. Finally you can have a top shelf with screws where you can hang my drills and other tools and keep the tool boxes on the shelves beneath. You can also fill my shelves with other set of tools that you might have and keep the ones that you use frequently on the top.

There is potential of having Bluetooth charging stations and wireless charging stations in the future that will allow you to keep track of charging options, who and where is the device being used, how much charge is left and how long can it continue without charge. It will also provide you information of the battery that was not easily accessible. Solar power stations are promising charging stations of the future that will have solar panels installed with a cord system and the devices could be charged with a plug-in cord.

If you have to build a charging station at home, you would need to design it with a strong base and a number of shelves where you can keep the tool boxes. You could have a hanging area at the top and make all the tools that you use daily be on display so you can find them easily.

Devices may have different types of batteries and there may be different charging tools for each type of battery. Depending up on that there are different charging stations for batteries and you can also build one at home.
