How to connect the solar panel to the battery?

With all the hype about solar batteries, you may be wondering if it's an essential component in your solar PV installation. The price of a solar photovoltaic installation with batteries can increase up to 80% more and the stored energy would cost more than the energy we extract from the grid.

There are certain advantages to having batteries as a backup at times. So, here we are going to learn how to connect the solar panel to the battery?

How to connect the solar panel to the battery without a charge controller?

You need to connect the positive wires from the panel to a battery wire. I will help to prevent a battery explosion or fire in case of a short in the wiring. And then, you need to connect the negative cable from the panel to the negative side of the terminal of the batteries.

How to connect the solar panel to the battery and inverter?

You can connect several batteries to the charge controller. The capacities in Ah can be of different sizes. Connecting an 80 Ah battery with a 210 Ah battery in parallel is no problem at all.

It is only important that both batteries have 12V voltage and that they are of the same type. So, gel it with gel and acid with acid. Gel with acid is unfortunately not possible because you can only set the charge regulator to one version.

The battery can be combined with a normal acid lead battery because the AGM battery contains acid, which is bound by glass mat separators. With some charge controllers, you can enter the total battery capacity so that the charge controller can adjust to it. With a parallel connection with 2 batteries with 80 Ah and 210 Ah, this is a total of 290 Ah capacity, which can thus be entered.

With this parallel connection, you will see 2 AGM batteries. You connect both batteries with plus to plus and minus to minus. So, it can be seen as a single, large battery.

Then go from one of these two batteries of your choice to the connection of the charge controller, as shown here in the circuit diagram. Finished!

We use thick copper cables up to 25mm2 in connection with our round pole terminals to connect the two batteries. Commercially available copper bars can also be used for this.

Put both batteries as close together as possible. So, no longer than e.g. 30 cm cable length to connect the batteries. The battery cable to the charge controller can be up to 2m long.

It is also varied for the two batteries if you exchange them after e.g. a year so that the other, rear battery comes directly to the charge regulator and the previous one is moved to the rear. That doesn't have to be the case, but it can extend life expectancy.

For battery no. 1 we use an extra cable for plus and minus. Also, for battery no. 2. We bundle the two-plus wires in the connection for a plus of the charge controller. We do the same for the two negative cables. You can do it however you want. The main thing is that the voltage of 12V is retained.

The series connection of 2 batteries with 12V each is very simple. You go with the positive cable from the charge controller to the positive terminal of the first battery.

Then go from the negative terminal of the first battery to the positive terminal of the second battery. Finally, connect the negative pole of the second battery to the negative pole of the charge regulator. Finished. The voltage of the two 12V batteries is now 24 volts. But now you also need a 24V solar panel. Or you connect 2 solar modules with 12 V voltage each in series as with the batteries.

At the output of the charge regulator, 24 volts DC direct voltage is then also available. You can do that if you want to use our 24V UVC lamp for pond filters with the solar system.

In this case, however, you cannot connect a 12V pond pump to this system. For this, you would then have to install a second stand-alone system with 12V. So, in that case only for the pump. 24V solar pond pumps are currently not known to us. There were times, but luckily they no longer exist.

You can find out the reason in the chapter which pond pump you can buy cheaply and which rather not. You can also find out more about the connection of 12V pond pumps and UV lamps for solar pond filters in another chapter of these construction instructions for solar technology on the pond.

How to connect the solar panel to battery rust?

With these brief instructions, you can get your device up and running quickly and simply retrofit and put it back into operation.

Installation of the solar panel on the fence energizer

1. Mount the solar panel on the side of the on / off switch on the handle of the lid.

2. There is a rail on the back of the panel. Sit down place them on the handle so that the holes in the rail line up with the holes in the handle.

3. Insert the smooth side of the split pin through the holes to secure the fixed solar panel.

Connection of the solar panel to the battery

At the end of the cable to the solar panel you will find four individual cables: two Red (plus) and two black (minus). The round receptacles are for

the connection to the fence energizer. The round connectors are attached to the battery connected.

1. Take the red round receptacle (plus, 4 mm thick) and the black round socket (minus, 3 mm thick) and insert these on the plug slots in the lid of the fence energizer, marked for the battery connection.

2. Remove the sticker from the battery over the connections. The battery is now activated.

3. Connect the round plug with the round socket of the Battery. Pay attention to the correct pole connection. Red - red (plus) and black - black (minus).

4. Stow the battery in the device box and close it housing with the lid. Make sure that the cable is in the recess of the box is performed.
