One of the most important parts of the car is its battery as most of the cars these days are unable to start without the battery having charging in them. In the older times, manual-driven cars were able to start by pushing the car but doing so with automatic cars is not possible.

So, if you have a car with a dead battery then you can either replace the battery or you can charge the battery by several methods. Some of the methods of charging a dead car battery are elaborated on below.

Charging a Dead Battery Using a Trickle Charger

If you have a dead car battery, then one of the best ways to charge it is by using the trickle charger. It is something that is known for not damaging the car battery while it charges it, and the best part is that trickle charging can work on most of the car batteries. However, most people do not know about trickle chargers and trickle charging.

What is trickle charging?

Trickle charging is the process of charging the battery at the rate equal to which it loses its power by self-discharge. It is the method that is usually used to maintain the charging of your car battery when it has some charging in it, but the battery is going to stay inactive for some time. However, the good part is that this method also works on dead batteries.

How can you charge the dead batteries with trickle charging?

So, when you are looking to charge the dead batteries with trickle charging there is not a lot that you need to do. All you need to do here is to connect the battery with the terminals of the trickle chargers. Afterward, you can start charging the battery. One good practice here is to disconnect one of the wires from the car connecting to the battery for the security of the car’s electronics.

The Significance of Trickle Charging for Dead Batteries

When a battery is dead, fast charging or normal charging may not work as the battery will not hold the charge for a long time. On the other hand, trickle charging will be the right way to revive the battery. However, it is important to consider that the process will take a long time.

Charging a Dead Battery With Another Car

Consider that you are in a situation where there is no way you can plug your car battery with a charger, but you have some cars nearby you. In this situation when you have a dead car battery it is best to charge it using the other cars available nearby. If you have more than one car, then it will be good, otherwise you can ask people for a favor to get your car battery charged.

How to charge the dead battery with another car.

Doing so is not a difficult process however it is somewhat complex, so you need to be careful with the steps when following them. You can follow these steps for charging the dead battery with another car.

1.You can start with both the cars facing each other’s front and the engines for both of them are turned off.

2.Disconnect at least one battery cable from the dead battery for the safety of your car’s electronics

3.Start engine of car that has good battery

4.Now you can connect the positive terminals of both batteries using the jumper cable

5.Now you need to connect the negative terminal of the jumper cable to the donor car

6.Carefully connect the negative terminal of the jumper wire with the negative terminal of the dead battery.

7.If it is possible then remove the cables from the donor car’s battery and carefully place them so they do not touch while the dead battery is connected with the starter engine.

Leaving the battery and engine running connected for about 20 to 30 minutes will get the job done.

While this method works out, it can be a little dangerous in some cases with issues for the alternators of both the cars and electronics as well.

So, you must disconnect the battery on the dead car. Additionally, selecting the donor car with the battery as big nearly as equal to your car will be the safest you can do. Another thing that you need to be careful here about is connecting the right terminals as a little mistake can fry things out.

Charging a Dead Battery With Jumper Cables

The last way to charge the dead battery is by using the jumper cables. Although the process might seem similar to the previous one, it is not that dependent on the donor car. Here are the steps that you need to perform to charge the dead battery with jumper cables.

1.You can start with both the cars facing each other’s front and the engines for both of them are turned off.

2.Start engine of car that has good battery

3.Now you can connect the positive terminals of both batteries using the jumper cable

4.Now you need to connect the negative terminal of the jumper cable to the donor car

5.Carefully connect the negative terminal of the jumper wire with the negative terminal of the dead battery.

6.Leave the system connected and running for at least 5 or 10 minutes

7.Ask someone to press the accelerator on the second car a little

8.Try to start the car with a dead battery. If the car starts, then you can proceed otherwise you need to wait

9.Start disconnecting the wires in the same order and remember to be as careful as possible.

After the car with the dead battery is started you need to make sure that you either take the car for a long ride for at least 30 to 40 minutes. Otherwise, you can leave the car parked with the engine started for the same time limit. At this time the alternator of the car will charge the dead battery.

Conclusion

The battery is both the most overlooked and important part of the car battery. So, if your car battery is not in good health, it can get you in trouble. However, using some tricks and methods you can easily charge the dead battery of your car.
