Common Battery Troubles

There are several reasons why laptop batteries lose their capacity after some time. One of the biggest issues is significant changes in temperature. This can have an adverse effect on the proper functioning of the battery, especially if it's lithium-ion. The cells just degrade over time and with heavy use.

Understand that all batteries degrade over time. This is because a battery will lose a certain percentage of its capacity with every charge cycle. But this problem can be escalated by poor use of the device.

You will notice that your battery does not store as much energy as it used to before. That is because of degradation.

Leaving the battery plugged in the charging port even when it's fully charged can affect it further. It increases the battery's chemical reaction, reducing its lifespan.

You can mitigate some of these issues with proper battery maintenance. Some problems might be due to the dust from the fans, which might require a direct approach like cleaning. When the battery itself is affected, you will need to deal with it directly.

And that is where resetting comes in. This process makes the smart sensor reconnect well back to the laptop. This assures a more accurate power reading. In certain systems, a proper reset allows the battery to integrate easily with the battery. It will enhance proper compatibility, delivering better system functionality.

Reset Laptop Battery Not Charging

If your laptop battery is not charging, there are a few things you can do to fix it. Consider the following.

Troubleshooting the Hardware

One of the reasons your battery is not charging could be the hardware. Try fixing this. First, check if the power cable has issues. Drain the battery and then try charging it again.

If the battery is charging, the problem may be with the threshold. You can try another method, as we will discuss below. If it's not charging, your battery could be bad, or perhaps your AC has issues. Wherever possible, use a new adapter.

Do a laptop power reset?

A power reset could be all you need to fix your battery charging problems. Shut down the laptop and disconnect the adapter. Remove the battery and long-press the power button for 30 seconds. Restore the battery and turn it on. Your battery should start working properly.

You could be missing an updated battery management system on your laptop. This can cause charging issues. Try to update this feature and see what happens.

Laptop Battery Reset Button

Some laptops like the Samsung Series 5 have an embedded controller inside to control things like battery charging, LEDs, and more. They work when the laptop is turned off. This is what we are calling the reset button.

You may rarely have to use this button. But if the need arises, you can press it to reset the battery. However, some laptops don't have removable batteries. Therefore, you will not find a use for this button. Instead, you can use the power button to reset your battery.
