How Many mAh Is a Lithium AA Battery?

APR 15, 2020   Pageview:4364

There are several characteristics of every battery that distinguishes them from each other such as battery capacity, energy density, voltage stability, self-discharging, size, chemistry, and brand etc. Lithium-ion batteries are available in different sizes one of which is AA size, which is a standard cell size. In this article, we’re gonna be talking about the battery capacity of AA size Lithium ion batteries and how long they last.

Do You Know How Many mAh a Lithium AA Battery Is?

Battery capacity is defined as a measure of the charge a battery stores and is determined by the chemistry used to manufacture the battery. In other words, the battery capacity means the maximum amount of energy that can be taken out from the battery under certain specified conditions. However, the real energy storage capacity of the battery may differ significantly from the "nominal" rated capacity, as the battery capacity depends strongly on the past usage history, storage temperature, age, and the discharging or charging regimes of the battery.

Battery capacity is expressed in mAh (milliamps × hours). For instance, if a battery has the capacity of 250 mAH and provides 2 milliamps average current to a load, the battery will last 125 hours, in theory. However in reality, the actual battery life depends on the way the battery is discharged. Discharging a battery at the manufacturer-specified rate normally helps the battery provide close to its nominal capacity.

After doing some research, we’ve found that AA size lithium batteries of different brands have different capacities. AA Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries have the highest capacity of all that is 3000 mAh. They proved unsurpassed in performance against a number of real-world usage situations such as remote controls, digital cameras and portable lights, after strict testing against competitors from around the world, and even they now hold a Guinness world record title for the longest-lasting battery. They do not only provide record-breaking performance, but they are lightweight, a leak resistant design and have a 20-year shelf life.

On the other hand, we’ve AA size USB rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries that have the 1200 mAh capacity. They are commercially made for remote controls, toys, fans, flashlights, wireless keyboard and mouse, arm clock, cameras etc. They have built-in USB port that can be plug into any USB port to get them charged.

How Much Longer Do Lithium AA Battery Last?

Being a gadget lover, everyone knows that almost all of our gadgets require batteries to for power. The issue is that most of the batteries in the market do not have as much long life as you wants.  But a company named as Energizer has manufactured the AA Energizer Ultimate Li-ion batteries. But what how much longer do they last? The packaging of these batteries is almost same as any other battery packaging you have seen. As said by Energizer Company itself that these batteries are the world’s longest lasting AA Lithium ion battery in high-technology devices.  They’ve also said that this battery lasts 9 times longer in digital cameras compared to their own Energizer Max battery.

We’re talking about Energizer batteries because they are made out of lithium. These Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries are manufactured in USA. It has been said about these batteries that they are 33% lighter in weight than ordinary alkaline batteries. There is no scale to test this claim, but they do feel lighter when compared with them with other batteries in the market. These batteries are also known to have a 20-year shelf life. The Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries last considerably longer than most of the other AA batteries because they have the highest capacity as mentioned above.

Lithium batteries last much longer than alkaline batteries, and thus AA size lithium batteries. They also provide more energy and are lighter than alkaline batteries. This is the reason they are expensive than those alkaline batteries, but since they have too many advantages over other AA size batteries, hence they are the most preferred choice of consumers for a variety of applications. Both single-use and rechargeable AA size lithium batteries are a better choice than alkaline batteries and many others.

How Do You Extend A Lithium AA Battery Cycle Life?

AA size Lithium-ion batteries are expensive but they are widely used in many different devices and gadgets mentioned above. So it makes sense that you’d want to make sure that these expensive batteries live as long and happy a life as possible.

So to understand how to extend the life of AA Lithium ion batteries, we first need to know why they die. The simple answer is that basically, during each charge and discharge cycle, very small parasitic reactions takes place between the electrodes and the electrolyte inside a Li-ion battery, building up from time to time and decreasing the amount of energy the battery can both store and output.

There are two important factors that play a significant role to kill lithium-ion batteries. These are high temperatures and high charge levels (i.e. increased time spent at high voltages). These factors contribute to faster death of Li-ion batteries. High temperatures give rise to the parasitic reactions that takes place in a Li-ion battery’s electrolyte, whereas high charge levels result in extreme performance for just a few cycles, followed by a decline in performance and much faster deterioration of the battery.

Fortunately, we can control both of these factors to make our lithium batteries last as longer as possible. The first thing we need to do is to avoid letting our Lithium battery get hot. They get hot when they get charged at high rates. So, in order to make your lithium battery lasts as long as possible, you need to charge it at lower rates, so that it does not get hot and remain cooler and happier. Next, you need to charge your lithium batteries to lower levels when possible. People usually charge their batteries up to 100% and some swear off to keep 100% charging in their battery. This is not good for the battery life so try to charge your batteries at lower levels.
