Desulfation Battery Charger- Gel Battery, Cycle Life and Desulfation Mode

Jul 26, 2021   Pageview:1288

In this techno-paced era where everything is prodigiously dependent on devices and machines, which in turn are dependent on batteries, the significance of the latter in this era has increased. In order to cater to the needs of the population, gel batteries, in addition to lead batteries, were introduced. Gel batteries appear to be more in demand because of the quality superiority and excellent deep cycle performance; however, it comes with its own pros and cons.

As a result, this article will follow the various steps involved in the desulfation of a battery, its life cycle and the subsequent battery charger mode.

How to Desulfate a Gel battery?

Sulfation is one of the most common reasons for a battery failure, however to some relief, the sulfation process can be reversed via high-frequency electronic pulses. Below mentioned are a few steps that one needs to follow in order to desulfate a gel battery.

●Individuals must remove all filler gaps from the batteries.

●After this, they must ensure a proper perusal followed by a cross-check of the water liquid electrolyte level.

●If the electrolyte level is low or has ever gone to a place below the plates, serious lead plate sulfation has occurred. As a result, significant recharge or reconditioning time is required to sustain the plates to a condition where the battery may function normally.

●Once you have verified the level, refill all the cells in the batteries only till the liquid indicator level. Before pursuing any further, all the operative and safety measures should have been looked into.

●A full recharge of the battery with a battery charger desulfator is required to ensure that it is adequately charged before determining its condition.

●An overnight “REST” for the batteries (minimum of 12hrs) is also essential to gauge the condition objectively.

●Test the battery with a temperature compensated hydrometer and/or digital type voltmeter only.

●In order to be more specific with the results, reconnect your battery to the desulfator charger.

●Allow the battery to remain at rest for the next 72-hours before a recheck.

How long does it take to desulfate a battery?

Each battery has a total frequency of 2 to 6 megahertz approximately. If electric pulses consisting of low power but high frequency coupled with high voltage are passed through, the rhythmic resonance of the plates give rise to the splitting of crystal deposits, and the sulfate redeposits. However, the duration of this desulfation process varies from three to four weeks. Herein, Battery must be trickle charged, i.e. charged in parallel to the desulfator so that the battery gets rejuvenated.

Schumacher Battery Charger Desulfation Mode

There are many battery chargers present in the market. However, not all have different qualities satisfying the needs of the customer. One is likely to choose the one that best serves their interests. Schumacher is an electric company that has been producing and manufacturing electronic products for automotive since the year 1917. Thus, it is a reliable and robust company for individuals to rely on.

This charger is the product of the company that is capable of producing engine starters, jumper cables and other various electronic devices. It’s very different from traditional chargers and can be used to charge batteries of any type or size. It’s the ideal equipment to charge your battery faster and keep it safe from damage caused by issues such as overcharging. However, there are different types of batteries that this company provides, and hence the user has to make a choice most suitable.

Here’s a look at some of the chargers produced by Schumacher:

1.Manual Charger

These are one of the most traditional ones that one can get. As the name suggests, these are to be operated manually from the start to the end. Therefore, the process becomes taxing. For instance, one has to look at the charging from time to time to prevent any sort of overcharging. Failing to unplug the battery may result in failure.

2.Automatic Charger

These are more convenient than the manual charger as it does not require constant monitoring. It’s an ideal choice if you wish to purchase a quality charger at an affordable price. It stops the charging as soon as it is done, preventing the issue of overcharging. The automatic charges switch to Maintain Mode once it’s done charging the battery.

If, after charging, the voltage drops past a preset value, the charger will go back to charging mode and provide a small current to recharge again. When it’s complete, it’ll go back to Maintain Mode. This charger maintains the cycle unless the switch is turned off.

3.Microprocessor Charger

This is the safest, most efficient and most convenient battery charger one can get. It can charge a wide array of batteries irrespective of type or size. Such a charger monitors the entire charging process by protecting the battery from charging mishaps.

Thus, it can fast-charge while the battery is low and reduce the current when it’s almost complete. Additionally, it also prevents overcharging of the battery. The battery is easy to use and does not involve any complicated steps. The Schumacher Battery Charger automatically chooses the desulfation mode and charger profile based on the battery’s type and size. One does not need to dial in any other settings as the device already does everything for you. Both the charging cables and the power cord are 6-feet in length, and the device can also be used outdoors.

To charge a battery using the Schumacher technology, connect the device’s clamps to the battery's terminals. The red clamp goes to the positive battery terminal, while the black clamp goes to a clean and unpainted metal surface in the car’s frame. Plug the SC1305 into an electrical outlet. Turn the jump starter on. Therefore, the method to use this charger is as easy and doable as it seems. However, this works only as long as one has an electric outlet to rely upon.
