The battery is an important component of any electronic device. It becomes impossible to operate a device that runs on a battery. For this purpose, you need a battery charger. The battery charger is a device that can be used to put energy into a cell through an electric current.

However, to charge a battery you need to follow a protocol. This protocol depends upon the type of battery used and the size of the battery.

Few chargers can withstand high charging while others can get damaged due to high charging.

Radio Shack Battery Charger Blinking Red Light

When you charge two rear batteries, you will notice that these two batteries get heated as compared to other banks. The reason for this is because of the amount of heat that is transferred to the batteries by the converter circuit. Though, it does not imply that the batteries are getting charged at a quicker rate or they are being overcharged. It is a common phenomenon for a charger to become hot during the fast charging process. The Radio Shack charger comprises a built-in converter circuit that gets heated during quick charging.

When the battery charger shows a blinking red light, it indicates that the batteries have gone bad. This means that both the batteries are damaged.

However, you can bring back the life of the batteries. For this purpose, you need to observe few signs. The first sign that includes is that you need to watch for the red light for more than five seconds.

When you insert the battery into the charger, and it still continues to blink for more than five seconds, then it indicates high voltage. This also means that the battery has already received a full charge. However, upon needing new charging, you need to drain the charge of the batteries completely, and then recharge again.

When the light of the battery blinks for more than 1 minute then it indicates low voltage. You can leave both the batteries inside the charger for more than 1 day with the light still in blinking mode. You can remove the batteries and then put them on charge again. However, the red light still shows even if you remove the charger. You need to simply remove one battery for putting off the lights.

Radio Shack Battery Charger Manual

The Radio Shack Compact Ni-Cd is designed to charge AA and AAA batteries simultaneously. The features of this battery charger include:

Two Charging Indicators – Shows charging of the batteries and switches off when charging is full.

Reverse Polarity Protection – This feature prevents the batteries from damages caused by improper installation of batteries.

Automatic Timer Shut Off – Automatically switches off the charger when it is full. This prevents the batteries from overcharging issues.

Operation

1.For charging the batteries, you need to put both the batteries into BAY 1 by following the polarity symbols (+ and -) that are clearly shown in the compartment. Then you need to set the correct settings for the charger. If you want to charge AAA batteries, then you need to install both the batteries into the battery adapter by following the polarity symbols that are marked in the adapter. Then you need to install the battery adapter into BAY 1. It should face the top of the bay along with the arrows marked in the adapter. Keep in mind to point it towards the rear of the charging bay and follow the correct settings.

2.If you want to charge four AA batteries, then you need to put the two batteries in each bay by following their polarity symbols. Both the positive and the negative symbols are marked for your convenience in each compartment. You need to put both the batteries according to their correct settings. For charging four quantities of AA batteries, you need to put the four batteries into the AAA battery adapters. However, you need to put them according to their polarity symbols (+ and -). Then you need to install the adapter into the top-facing bay that is marked towards the back of the charger. Then slide both of them based upon their correct settings.

Radio Shack Universal Battery Charger

A universal charger is used to charge various electronic devices. However, the charger of a laptop is a specific universal charger that can be used to charge only the laptop, not any other device.

The main highlights of Radio Shack universal battery charger can provide charge to five types of batteries. It can charge AAA, AA, C, D, and 9V batteries. The battery charger may include:

Multiple Charging Circuits – This helps you to four types of battery sizes such as AAA, AA, D, and D size batteries easily.

Automatic Charging Current Selection – Automatically selects the best charging type for each battery depending upon its size.

Automatic Shut-Down – Comprises of special circuits that switch off when it is fully charged.

Reverse Polarity Protection – This feature prevents the charger and the battery because of improper installation of batteries.

Safety Timer shut off – Automatic switches off the charger for preventing overcharging issues in AAA, AA, C, and D type batteries.

Short Circuit Prevention – Prevents the charger against short circuit problems.

Battery Conditioner – This allows you to drain the charging of the batteries and keeps them fresh for recharging once again.

Charging/Discharging Indications - Light indicators allow you to know when the batteries are getting charged/discharged.

Overcurrent Protection – This feature allows you to protect the charger against defective charging or short-circuit batteries.

Few Warning Signs:

You are required to charge only Ni-MH or Ni-Cd batteries. This is because other types of batteries may burst or can cause personal injuries.

If you want to clean it or if it requires maintenance, then you need to remove the charger from the AC outlet before cleaning.

Never disassemble the charger. You are required to consult an expert in case of repair.

Never use any other parts that are not approved by Radio Shack. The reason for this is it may cause fire, damage, or the charger may burst as a result of improper installation.
